Unique shipping container home sells in Queensland for $200,000
A mysterious cube home sold for $200,000 has captivated a buyer able to think outside of the box.
On Russell Island in Queensland, the almost-finished shipping container house at 9 Sapphire Street was sold by private treaty on August 31 and was Australia's cheapest sale reported that weekend to Domain, to start spring.
The unusual, partially-built property is made up of three containers with the walls cut out and is in a postcode with significant capital growth.

The containers are almost completely covered in eco-friendly solar panels, which helps to reduce day-to-day living costs.
Agent Chris McGregor of Bay Islands Property, who handled the listing, told Nine at the start of the campaign in July that the vendor had the intention of going completely "off-grid" when building the property.
The address is a work in progress and has fencing around the perimeter of the block, insulation in the walls and ceiling, a septic system and a rear deck, and the NBN is connected. It has capacity for water and power but those have been hooked up yet.
It presents as a one-bedroom, one-bathroom regional retreat, sold as is.

An auction was scheduled at one stage for September but there was no need to send it under the hammer.

McGregor told Nine the owner is selling as he plans on moving overseas. He purchased the block of land about five years ago and never got around to finishing the build.
Russell Island is just off the coast of Brisbane in the City of Redland.
Domain's House Price Report for the June 2023 quarter reveals the median house price for Russell Island is $339,500 - a rise of more than 17 per cent over 12 months.
