The luxe studio at 8/5 Darley Street, Darlinghurst, which a space-saving Murphy bed.

At price hopes of $575,000 upwards and a glamour campaign shoot to boot, this architect-designed pad has luxe credentials that seem to defy its price.

High-end style at that entry point in a suburb such as Darlinghurst - where the unit median is almost $1 million - comes with compromise, and in this instance, it is the fold-out bed in the studio floorplan.

The apartment at 8/5 Darley Street, Darlinghurst, has a smart and space-saving Murphy bed - a design in which the bed neatly flips back into a wall concealed cavity.

Studios are common in Manhattan and Paris and provide the resident proximity to the action, in a petite footprint.

The property's before-and-after old listing shots show how far it has come. It has been newly refurbished, in a handsome art deco building, in the inner-eastern city suburb. Domain public property records reveal it last sold in 2017 for $371,200.

The listing, handled by Con Fotaras at Ray White Touma Group, is on the market for $575,000 to $625,000.

The median apartment price in Darlinghurst has risen 5 per cent over five years to land at $950,000, according to Domain's September 2023 House Price Report. The median house price in the elite enclave, next to Woolloomooloo, is $2.2 million.

"No expense has been spared in providing every comfort and convenience in this sunny pied-a-terre, with flawless finishes and thoughtful planning offering surprising roominess and luxury," the listing says.

The campaign depicts the space with the Murphy bed both down and linen on, and tucked away, behind bespoke joinery. When it is stowed, the facing joinery looks like an extension of the wardrobe space, and opens up the living zone.

Built-in banquette seating makes sensible use of every centimetre, beneath sash windows, with a fresh bathroom featuring banks of tiny white finger tiles and a gourmet kitchen, drenched in sun.

Another studio on the market in a highly-sought Sydney suburb also redefines the meaning of prestige property.

At $450,000, the apartment at 21/68 Gould Street, Bondi Beach, would not seem to be among the city's most upmarket pieces of real estate.

But when measured by square metre, the studio in a world-famous location is in rare air, as one of Sydney's most elite addresses.
