The best curve-inclusive activewear brands, according to a plus-size model

9PR

While babes swan around our feeds and the streets in leggings, tanks and sports bras, looking uber comfortable – I've always felt the least like myself in activewear.

It's taken me a little while to figure out why.

Good activewear should feel like a second skin, it should be comfy and stretchy and make you feel invincible. So why is it that wearing activewear has always made me feel exposed, uncomfortable and claustrophobic? Because many mainstream brands don't design for curves.

As a woman with a curvier figure, I've struggled to find activewear that feels like it properly fits. Whether the leggings roll down over my tum, the sports bras make me feel either squishy or totally unsupported, or the material makes me feel exposed – activewear has never felt like a natural section of my wardrobe.

But recently, I decided to change that.

In my late twenties, I have a newfound appreciation for comfort and versatility in an outfit. I can't pretend that wearing leggings, a sports bra and a cool hoodie isn't the best outfit to take you from a morning walk to brunch to errand-running on a Saturday.

So, I went out in search of the best activewear brands for curves. As a plus-size model, I already had some inside knowledge. But most of it has been good old-fashioned research.

Here are the best activewear brands for curves (that I've found so far)...

Bambine Body

Buy the flare pants here!

Bambine Body makes the most iconic leggings for curves. Their flare pants ($89.99) are super high-waisted with a thick waistband for ultimate comfort. They're flattering on the hips, hug your butt and literally look like they were designed purely to celebrate delicious curves.

While their leggings are my favourite, they also have a range of tops that are super cute and have more of a 'sportluxe' vibe than a flat-out workout vibe. This Crossback Tank ($59.95) is extra sexy. Add this one to cart right now.

Boody

Boody shows activewear on diverse bodies, which is already a win. Plus, they go up to a size 3XL.

Their sports bras are wire-free and supportive. Yep, I know. They're constructed in a seam-free, double-layered and racerback design for extra support. Plus, they're made out of breathable organically grown bamboo, so they're soft, breathable and hypoallergenic.

Boody wins for comfort. And size diversity. But mostly comfort. I mean truly, you'll forget you're wearing anything at all.

My picks are the Full Bust Wireless Racerback Bra ($39.95) and the Downtime Lounge Pants ($74.95)

Triumph

Triumph is all about perfectly fitting bras. They make bras that are pretty and lacey and more for every day, as well as wire-free sports bras you'll never get over. You can book virtual fittings online with bra experts to get the perfect fit for you. Or, you can use their super extensive online fitting guide.

Our pick: Triumph Triaction Minimiser Sports Bra

They're not the prettiest of bras, but when they're university-tested for their support levels and they're comfy and wire-free, they're hard to turn away from.
