Why this $14 million house in Melbourne is dubbed the 'Concrete Curtain'
A home in a blue ribbon suburb of Melbourne has been designed with privacy in mind.
The four-bedroom, five-bathroom property at 27 Jackson Street in Toorak is aptly called the 'Concrete Curtain' due to its brutalist architecture.
Listed with a price guide of $13 million to $14 million, the home is enveloped in 259 concrete columns to provide a tranquil oasis away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Agents Oliver Booth, Nicky Rowe and Robert Li of Kay & Burton Stonnington are taking expressions of interest until 12pm on September 12.

Designed by Feras Raffoul of FGR Architects, the home very much reflects brutalist architecture - a unique style that emerged in the 1950s in the United Kingdom.
The style sees an emphasis placed on minimalist constructions with bare building products over elaborate designs.
Unapologetic with their aesthetic, facades often have sharp angles and geometric shapes with either concrete, exposed brick, steel, timber or glass.

The home on Jackson Street features a "folded pleated curtain" and glass panels to offer a private and tranquil setting.
It is just one of 18 homes globally (and also the only Australian design) listed as a finalist under the house and villa category in the World Architecture Festival for 2023.
Interiors take on an open-plan layout and are calming with their chic colour palette and choice of materials.

The buyer will be greeted by a sculptural spiral staircase that presents like a work of art, surrounded by travertine flooring, green quartzite surfaces in the kitchen and living zones as well as muted concrete walls.
There is ample space to entertain with a patio and outdoor pool.
Toorak is an affluent Melbourne suburb, 5km south-east of the CBD. Domain's House Price Report for the June 2023 quarter reveals the median house price is $4.9 million.
