First look at Jamie Dornan's return for the second season of Stan's hit thriller series The Tourist

It's an exciting day for fans of the six-part thriller The Tourist, as Stan has some exciting news.

The streaming giant has already announced that Season 2 is coming, and has now released first look-images of the highly anticipated second season.

The show, filmed in Dublin, Ireland will see the return of BAFTA and Golden Globe award nominated Jamie Dornan (Belfast, The Fall) and Danielle Macdonald (Unbelievable, Dumplin').

The images feature Dornan who resumes his role as Elliot Stanley, a man looking to rediscover his true identity following his memory loss.

Another features Macdonald as former police officer Helen Chambers following their adventure in the Australian Outback.

"I'm incredibly excited to continue the story with The Tourist," Jamie Dornan said in a statement.

In Season 2, Elliot and Helen will travel together to Ireland.

As Elliot tries to discover more about himself and his history following the car crash that's left him with severe memory loss, the journey proves to be a larger task than the pair expect.

Macdonald added: "I'm so excited to team up with Jamie again and return for another wild adventure with an amazing cast and crew."

What is The Tourist about?

In Season 1 of the Stan Original Series, we followed the story of Elliot – played by Dornan – who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback on an epic cat-and-mouse chase with a vast tank truck.

Elliot wakes in hospital, hurt, alive – and bewildered with no idea who he is.

Full of shocking plot twists and the same off-beat comedy that made season one a global success, The Tourist is set to return next year with even more intriguing characters and intense action.

What can we expect from Season 2?

As the story moves from Australia to Ireland, fans will witness new scenery and challenges Elliot and Helen have to face.

The actors, writers and producers of the show are very excited to be working on a new season.

"Harry and Jack Williams are brilliant writers, and I can't wait for audiences to see how well Ireland and its characters are utilised to keep them guessing as the tale progresses," Dornan said.

Harry and Jack themselves are excited about the return of the show.

"The Tourist was unlike anything we'd written before and we're hugely grateful for the incredible response to series one," the writers and Managing Directors of Two Brothers Pictures said.

"It's been an exciting journey getting stuck into that world again with the quirky characters that were so loved, and seeing where we could take them next, whilst continuing to deliver a tonally unique and off-beat drama."

Stan Chief Content Officer, Cailah Scobie expressed her excitement for the new season after the first became one of the most successful original series on Stan.

"The first season of The Tourist was one of our most successful original series and we are delighted to be working again with BBC One and Two Brothers Pictures, bringing Dornan and Macdonald back to our screens for this thrilling season return," Scobie said.

Executive Producers for Two Brothers Pictures, Sarah Hammond and Daniel Walker noted that the second season is set to be just as good as the first.

"Series two of The Tourist will surprise and delight viewers in the same way that the first did so successfully," they said.

"With comedy embedded throughout the dark and thrilling narrative, we're sure this series will continue to appeal to a wide audience, and are excited to explore that in a different setting."

Who is the cast of The Tourist?

Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald, who will be reprising their original roles of Elliot and Helen. The pair will also be confronted by friends and foes both old and new, including Niamh Cassidy (Olwen Fouéré) and the McDonnell family, Donal (Diarmaid Murtagh), Orla (Nessa Matthews), Fergal (Mark McKenna), and Frank (Francis Magee). Detective Ruairi Slater (Conor MacNeill) also becomes embroiled in the crossfire between the McDonnells and the Cassidys as the secrets of the family rivalry unravel.
