Gruesome moment doctor finds mass growing hair and teeth inside pregnant woman

Alabama local Kayla was 12 weeks pregnant when she started feeling "some pressure".
The pain intensified, and Kayla rushed to the hospital, fearful she was suffering a miscarriage.
But what the doctor found instead was horrifying.
Kayla's baby was fine… but there was something else growing inside her – a hair and tooth-filled tumour.

In a recent episode of Stuck – which you can watch for free on 9Now – it didn't take expert Dr George Crawford long to make the startling discovery.
He initially feared Kayla may have appendicitis and prepped her for surgery. But when he started inspecting Kayla via a laparoscopic camera, he quickly realised her appendix was fine.
He did however, spy something unexpected. "Oh… what is that?" Dr Crawford exclaimed, as he came across a mass.

Dr Crawford used his instruments to lift and wiggle the mass around, determined to figure out what it was.
It was stuck on Kayla's abdominal wall and was clearly what was responsible for causing her stomach pain.
Dr Crawford explained what he had discovered is called a teratoma, a mass of cells which got stuck in her ovaries and over time, grew to an abnormal size. Kayla's teratoma had lost blood supply and was now making her ovary twist.
If Dr Crawford had left the mass, the ovary could die and cause Kayla to become septic – which would potentially result in her losing her baby.
Kayla's keyhole surgery for possible appendicitis quickly spiralled into a different situation, as Dr Crawford tried to work out how to remove the teratoma and not injure the baby or damage her ovaries.

He started by slicing it open, and fluid immediately began oozing out.

Dr Crawford explained a teratoma is actually a tumour and can have all manner of things hiding inside, including fully-developed tissues and organs.
In Kayla's case, what he found lurking under the puss-like fluid was shocking.
The teratoma was clogged with hair and Dr Crawford waded through chunks of it, admitting he could also feel something hard.
It wasn't until he suctioned out part of the teratoma entirely that he learned what that was. He sluiced it open and made a horrifying revelation – multiple teeth and bone, growing amongst the tumour.

"You don't see them too often with a tooth," Dr Crawford said, as he examined the contents.

"You can have anything in a teratoma, so it's kind of like a present when you find one," he added.
We're not sure anyone wants this gift under their Christmas tree.
