A buyer will secure a piece of Australian sporting history.

The locally-iconic childhood home where Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins, who played cricket in the backyard with his brothers there in the New South Wales' Blue Mountains, has been sold.

Listed for $1.5 million to $1.6 million, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom property at 189 Rusden Road in Mount Riverview has a huge open grass area at the rear.

"As a kid I loved playing cricket with my two brothers in the backyard. We would mow a pitch, wet the grass for extra skid and have the trampoline as electric wickie (sic)," Cummins shared in an Instagram post alongside a photo with brothers Matt and Tim.

Peter and Maria Cummins raised their five children at the home - sons Matt, Tim and Pat and daughters Laura and Kara.

The property is a one-storey brick abode with a peaceful bush backdrop in the Blue Mountains region of New South Wales, 70km west of Sydney's CBD.

A back verandah overlooks the saltwater pool, and there are additional areas for rest and recreation with a basketball hoop and an undercover patio.

Perfect for families, there is a primary school across the road and childcare is just 200 metres away.

The property is on the books of Daniel Jennings of Dukes Estate Agents Penrith, who did the deal for an undisclosed sum on October 13.

Jennings told 3AW's Weekend Breakfast on October 7 that he knew the family well and recalled playing backyard cricket at the home with the Cummins boys.

He said the Aussie captain's social media post, reminiscing about the house, reminded him of their childhood.

"I was fortunate enough to grow up with the Cummins family from the age of seven - they went onto bigger things and I stuck to real estate, I did not have the capabilities," he said.

"When the brothers were bowling you preferred to hand over the bat and field, rather than having one of their balls bowled at you."

Jennings said the level of enquiry during the campaign was large due to the Cummins clan being "well loved" in the community, which is about 20 minutes from Penrith and 45 minutes from Sydney.

Domain's latest data reveals the median price for a four-bedroom home in Mount Riverview is $975,000.

Cummins is the captain of the Australian team in Test and One Day International cricket. He made his Test debut in 2011.

The right-arm fast bowler won Athlete of the Year at the BBC Green Sport Awards 2023 for his "leadership on climate issues in cricket and more broadly across Australia".

Cummins also won the 2019 Allan Border Medal, the same year he was named ICC's Test Player of the Year in 2019.
